LONDON Olympics 2012

Forty schools in Stevenage have been getting a dose of "Olympic fever" today. The town's Sporting Futures Scheme met with meeting pupils and teachers, hoping to inspire them to get involved in competitive games ahead of 2012. They've run between schools complete with a mock Olympic torch and special flag.

The town's Sporting Futures Scheme met with meeting pupils and teachers, hoping to inspire them to get involved in competitive games ahead of 2012. They've run between schools complete with a mock Olympic torch and special flag.

The scheme's sports co-ordinator Leanne Himes says they've seen a good response from youngsters: "They've made their own Olympic flags and rings - and lots of kids will be running with us. We want to try and get a legacy in Stevenage. Schoolchildren here are really fond of sport and they respond well to coaching and the leadership it encourages."

Some of our pupils ran round the school field with flags and a replica Olympic torch along side some of the Spartan Runners. We then headed off to Marriotts school to meet Lonsdale school and the Mayor of Stevenage.

The children had a fun afternoon and they also got to see the new site that the Lonsdale pupils will be moving to in April 2012 when they leave the Larwood site.
