Reflecting on a Wonderful Year
As we reach the end of another fantastic academic year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we've shared together as a school community. It's been a year filled with growth, celebration, and countless memorable moments that have truly brought us all closer together.
Community Spirit and Charitable Giving
One of the things that makes me most proud is how our school community has come together to support important causes. Our Macmillan Coffee Morning was a tremendous success, with staff, students, and parents joining forces to raise vital funds for cancer support. The turnout was wonderful, and it was heartwarming to see everyone chatting over coffee and cake for such a worthy cause.
Similarly, our participation in Jeans for Genes Day demonstrated our commitment to raising awareness and donations for children with genetic disorders. It's moments like these that show the true character of our school family.
Music and the Arts Flourishing
This year has been particularly exciting for music at our school. The introduction of djembe drumming lessons has been an absolute hit! The children have embraced learning new rhythms with such enthusiasm, and the sound of drums now fills our school weekly with energy and excitement. We've also welcomed a new external teacher who has been providing group music interventions, adding even more richness to our musical offerings.
Our Wednesday singing assemblies have made a wonderful return, really setting the children up for a great day ahead. These sessions, alongside our regular praise assemblies, have celebrated something very special – how incredibly welcoming our children have been, especially towards new pupils. The kindness and community spirit I've witnessed has been truly heartwarming.
The year culminated beautifully with our Christmas production, where all that musical learning came together in a spectacular performance that filled us all with pride.
Adventures and New Experiences
What an adventure-filled year it's been! Our whole school pantomime visit was a magical experience for everyone, but perhaps our most exciting expedition was when Space Hub travelled to London to visit the Science Museum. For some of our children, this was their first ever school trip or train journey – what a successful and memorable day it turned out to be!
Key Stage 1 had their very first-class trip to the zoo. Despite it being rather soggy, a fun day was had by all, and it was wonderful to see the children's faces light up as they discovered new animals and experiences.
Our Year 6 pupils had the opportunity of a lifetime with their PGL residential trip. With an impressive attendance of 23 pupils, it was a tremendously positive experience that created lasting memories and strengthened friendships.
Sporting Excellence
Sport has played a vital role in our school year, with numerous sporting events both in and out of school. The children particularly benefitted from table cricket sessions during Spring 1, and our Wednesday Fit Kidz sessions proved very popular. It's been fantastic to see so many children discovering new sports and developing their physical skills.
Recognition and Achievement
I'm delighted to share that we received a positive outcome for our Autism Accreditation – an achievement that was even featured in the Stevenage Comet! This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
Building Our Learning Environment
Our library has been transformed with a fantastic selection of new books, which students have been eagerly exploring during library time. There's nothing quite like seeing a child discover a new favourite book!
Bringing Families Together
Our monthly tea and coffee events for parents have been a lovely addition to our calendar, providing opportunities for our school community to connect and chat. We've also enjoyed various fundraising events throughout the year, including our Valentine's Day bake sale and non-uniform day, Red Nose Day celebrations, and our Easter fête, which was very well attended and brought such joy to everyone involved.
Looking Forward
As we close this chapter and look towards the summer holidays, I want to thank every member of our school community – pupils, parents, carers, staff, and trustees – for making this year so special. The memories we've created, the learning we've achieved, and the bonds we've strengthened will stay with us for years to come.
Have a wonderful summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting year ahead! I would like to wish our Year 6 pupils a very fond farewell. Always remember the good things you have learned during your time at Larwood, we believe in you all and can't wait to hear about the wonderful accomplishments you will make.
Warm regards,
